Meet the Editor
As the daughter of a dictionary editor, I’ve been immersed in the world of language for as long as I can remember. Close reading, writing and rewriting are deeply instinctive and areas of lifelong study for me, and I’m excited to bring my passion and expertise to your work. My editing work draws my experiences in higher education, educational publishing and coaching (learn more below in my bio). Overall, I offer a unique blend of precision, intelligent analysis, and empathy.
I love helping writers discover the golden thread at the heart of their project, a discovery that can happen at the level of the line edit or on the scale of holistic, developmental feedback.
I specialize in humanities and social science editing, with a particular focus on History and Gender Studies. I work on all kinds of projects, from book manuscripts and journal articles, to dissertations and grant proposals. I have a talent for cutting through the noise, and for providing incisive, concrete feedback with demonstrable impact.
After months or even years in the weeds of your research, it's all too common to feel disoriented and isolated. I'm here to guide you back to solid ground, reignite your sense of purpose, and elevate your writing to its full potential.
My Background
I have a Master’s degree in Women’s Studies from the University of Oxford, and studied gender history in the graduate program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I’ve spent a decade in higher education, as a lecturer, copy editor, and academic advisor.
My own work has secured support from the UW Center for the Humanities and the Arts and Humanities Research Council (UK). I have researched, presented, and published on topics including girl power capitalism, existentialist fashion and second-wave feminism, and the racialized history of loneliness. Check out my piece for Nursing Clio about the enduring lessons of the 1970s British pro-choice movement. Most recently, I wrote a chapter on the politics of motherhood for the collection Resist, Organize, Build: Feminist and Queer Activism in Britain and the United States during the Long 1980s (SUNY Press, 2022).
I’m also an experienced coach. In 2021, I completed a 60-hour training program accredited by the International Coaching Federation (ICF), and have offered low- and no-cost coaching services to women and LGBTQ+ adults. Through coaching, teaching, and advising I have learned the power of transformative questions asked in a supportive environment. As an editor, I will draw on these skills to bring out the best in your project.
I am currently completing the professional sequence in editing through the University of California, Berkeley. When I’m not editing, I’m usually found dabbling in a new hobby, cooking up a storm (and the associated mess) and working on my own creative writing projects. Born and raised in London, I currently live in Upstate New York with my wife and our beloved mutt, Skittles.
